Whether you’re a brand, PR firm, small business or individual, using podcasts to connect with your target audience is smart and effective.

Podcasts will help you to connect with your audience. Your voice is the most powerful tool to connect you to your audience.

Podcasting provides you with the opportunity to communicate with your target audience in a direct, intimate, and fun way. When your listeners hear you speak in your voice, your brand’s voice is heard. Producing your podcast is a powerful branding tool that should be an integral part of your marketing strategy.

Why a podcast consultant?

It’s entirely possible for new podcasters to simply use a podcasting recording platform to simplify the process of podcast creation, but the more professional they become, the more resources they’ll need.

A podcast consultant is someone who cuts down their efforts, so all that podcasters need to worry about is having

great conversations.

Let’s just consider for a moment what successful podcasting entails:

  • Content strategy
  • Finding good guests
  • Using the right equipment
  • Audio, including making background or intro/outro music
  • Editing the recording to make it sound more polished
  • Promoting the podcast, which involves a whole other set of skills

Podcast consultants empower people with no expertise to start podcasting successfully. They offer a combination of services such as hosting, podcast producer services, editing and promotion.

The ultimate goal of podcasting is earning money. Podcasts may focus on brand awareness or exploration, even a hobby. At the end of the day, every podcaster wants to make money.

Nearly 98% of the podcasters don’t earn money, as they have none to guide and help them out with the right advice at the right time. So as a podcasting consultant, you can enlighten people towards their goals.

Many podcasters are out there and this is the perfect time to enter the industry as a podcasting consultant. A lot of people out there are looking for your advice.

How to become an expert?

As a beginner and you may lack in the concepts of podcasting, I would suggest you log in to PodValley, where free courses on starting a podcast and podcast monetisation are available.

You should know your ways of what is podcasting and everything that surrounds it in order to become an expert as a podcasting consultant.

Trust me, they are very helpful and aid you to have a very clear idea. Having a podcast and finding clients alone is not sufficient, you should know how to monetize it effectively. And this is where consultants come into the picture.

These two hours courses have immense information and guide you throughout.

Make proper use of platforms such as Instagram, Reddit, Facebook to know more about podcasting.

Focusing on just RSS, subscribers and increasing the download numbers is not enough. As a consultant, you must emphasize podcasters to turn their attention towards their customer data. Many people listen to Spotify, iTunes etc. We should have a clear database on the audience and access it for our use. If you don’t dig deeper into your customer base, you will not get anything out of it. You are just helping Spotify, Google.

One of the best ways to start with is collecting audiences’ emails. Capturing their email will help us in the next step of turning the podcast viral. By collecting their emails, we are diverting Spotify and iTunes’ audience towards us. So, we get profited.

As a consultant, you can do a couple of things. Make sure your client (podcaster) has a website. Websites play a major role in collecting customer databases (emails).

If they don’t have one, make use of sites like PodValley, where one is allowed to claim a podcast. All you need to do is type their first and last name, voila! You will have their profile.

Claim the podcast, it’s free too! Once it’s claimed, they can use this as a website and share it. Once they share it, they will have access to every channel their audience listens to. Encourage podcasters to do this as this will portray you as an expert.

I also recommend Podmio. It is another hosting company that lets us capture emails. Email addresses are directly obtained from the player, no other company does this.

How to actually help as a podcasting consultant?

  • Set up their podcast:

Starting a podcast isn’t as easy as turning on a microphone and rambling for an indiscriminate amount of time. There are certain steps you need to follow in order to create a scintillating show that will perform well amongst your intended audience and compete with the best of the best.

Five-step podcasting plans:

  1. Structure your show.
  2. Frame your episodes with an intro and outro.
  3. Decide on including an interview.
  4. Practice hosting skills.
  5. Upload your podcast to the internet.

I already said about free courses in PodValley. Learn from it and implement them. By doing so, you can also charge for maintaining their podcasts.

Improve their cover art:

You can either do it by yourself or hire people from Upwork, 99 designs.

Edit their podcast:

The rule is the same, hire people for this.

You don’t have to master everything. Just know how to delegate as it both saves time and improves your focus on clients.

Help them monetize:

With the right approach, it’s totally possible to start making a bit of income within the first 6 months and build that to something greater over a year and beyond. Suggest the following for effective monetization.

Affiliate marketing — You can get started really quickly, recommending products and services that your audience might like

Sponsorship — once the affiliate is working, you can use those conversion stats to justify charging sponsors a good rate

Coaching — start this up once your audience knows you well and are willing to pay for your time

Course — eventually, you’ll start to see the questions that come up again and again. Build a course to answer them

Product — last, you might build a product to help your coaching and course students to solve their biggest problem

If you’re an entertainment or a news podcaster, then you might try some of the other methods, including Patreon and premium content.

PodValley is the best place to find the information you want about this. Mine that information and apply them.

Where to find clients and how much to charge:

You can straight up go to an iTunes podcast, find a topic you are interested in and related podcast streams on them. Start with podcasts that are doing good as they have a guaranteed flow of some money from here and there. The contact info and other data on the podcasters will be available, approach them via this.

When we successfully apply this technique, both can earn and it’s a win-win situation.

Always start with a suggestion. For instance, you have visited their website and found their cover art not being very clumsy and the words were overcrowded. Offer that you have a better solution to fix these problems.

You can also use Facebook groups. Many podcast groups will be available, join them. There will be people looking for assistance. Start with free advice and go forward.

Another method is via YouTube. Search for podcasts and in their videos, you can find their contact info. Approach via them and offer your service.

Now coming to how much you can charge people? You can either charge them on an hourly or monthly basis or based on the demands. While starting, set a low fee and increase as you grow.

I suggest you use “directpay.io”, to charge people (monthly or one-time fee).

Podcast consulting companies usually do things for you so that you don’t need to do them yourself. The difference between a company and an individual consultant is that the company usually performs tasks for you, while solo consultants tend to offer both advisory and editing services.

Even better is a podcast consulting company that specialises in your niche.
